Please Help Us Care for Hershey

Hershey is a one of a kind dog. Hershey found his way to Paws and Claws after finding his way into an area young woman’s heart. Hershey was born with severely malformed front legs, leaving him with limited mobility. When Hershey caught the eye of a woman at Leashes and Leads in Byron, Hershey’s fate and luck began to change. Rallied by the caring hearts and financial support of admirers and donors to the Paws and Claws Emergency fund, Hershey found his way to expert orthopedic care at the University of Minnesota. Hershey has gone through a procedure to lengthen his one leg, and had a partial amputation of his right leg- leaving him a future candidate for a doggy prosthetic leg! Despite the ordeal and obvious pain he has endured in his short life, Hershey is a trooper. He gladly greets his many fans and has won the hearts of so many generous individuals. The attention this young dog has garnered has helped raise awareness for the other cats and dogs at Paws and Claws that find themselves in need of emergency veterinary care. Cats like Jackie and Tigger Tom, and dogs like Rambo, Princess, and Barney, all owe their health and survival to the generosity bestowed by our Emergency Fund Donors.

Hershey has found his way into many hearts and now has found his way into a forever home where he can grow strong and aspires to be a certified therapy dog. Hershey has been and always will be an ambassador of Paws and Claws and its mission.

We have hope for animals like Hershey and with your help we expect each of them to have the chance at a full and healthy life. All of their care will be paid for through our emergency funds and we are counting on you, our supporters, to help Hershey and other cats and dogs with unexpected vet expenses.

You are the lifeline to our Emergency Fund

Hershey is the kind of animal that can be helped by our Emergency Care Fund. After helping care for recent litters of kittens, and puppies our emergency funds are again nearly depleted. We need the help of our supporters to properly care for these animals and make sure we remain prepared to help the next animal that finds itself in need of emergency care.

Why There is a Need for an Emergency Care Fund

It is unfortunately not uncommon for cats and dogs in our care to need extensive (and expensive) medical treatment due to sickness or injury--whether intentional or unintentional. We are able to pay for Hershey’s treatment and those of animals in similar need through the resources of our Emergency Care Fund. This fund was established at Paws and Claws to help cats and dogs who have an urgent health issue making it possible for us to afford the needed care to help save an animal's life and relieve pain and suffering.

So please, help us continue to care for those animals who need urgent or unexpected medical attention.
